The Charity Fair was scheduled to take place on 28th March 2020 to raise funds to be used to pay the tuition fees for some children living with autism to attend school at the Hopesetters Autism Center and the Autism Awareness Care and Training Center.
However, due to the discovery of COVID-19 cases, the planning committee thought it prudent to cancel the Fair. This decision was taken to ensure that all volunteers and the general public remained safe. The risk of spreading the disease was not one we were willing to take. Coincidentally, shortly after this decision was taken, the President announced a ban on public gatherings.
LCF, therefore, changed its strategy and utilised social media to continue the fundraising campaign.
At the end of April, a total of GHS 16,171 was raised in addition to some clothing and toiletries.
On 1st May 2020, we handed over a sum of GHC 8,000 each to the Autism Awareness and Training Center and the Hopesetters Autism Center.
This will cover tuition costs for 4 children living with autism for 5 months (2 children in each school).
This will also provide some financial relief for the month of April for their teachers. Additionally, Dansworld International Services committed to carry out disinfection of the two schools to aid them in their fight against COVID-19.
On 2nd May, we donated all the toiletries and clothing we received to the New Life Orphanage in Nungua.
To everyone who provided support and donated, thank you for your generosity in this hard time. We do not take it for granted. The schools; Hopesetters Autism Center, Autism Awareness Care and Training Center and the New Life Orphanage, and families of the children with special needs will forever be grateful.
